This is a beautiful biography of Wilson Bentley "The Snowflake Man", who spent his entire life photographing snow crystals.
After a read aloud, we explore Bentley's photographs, then the students create their own virtual snowflakes, using the following website.

“For me, it was a Gold Star day. I'd identified an enemy, and I'd made a life decision: I might come home tore up from fighting or late from being punished, but I'd never come home crying. So far, I ain't.” ― Sheila Turnage, Three Times Lucky

Figurative Language
I love this website for teaching figurative language. I use the worksheet (provided by Flocabulary) filled out with the expressions and we discuss each term and examples. Then the students listen to the rap and fill in the different figurative language examples from the rap.
