The Boy at the End of the World by Greg van Eekhout

When Fisher is born from a pod in the future, he knows two things, he is alone and he is in danger.  Fortunately, a robot has been left to make sure he is safe.  Every other creature preserved in the "Ark" has been killed before they could be born from their pods.  People of the past had tried to preserve life by building an ark and growing 2 of each species.  But now, everything is dead.  Fisher needs to get as far away from the threats to the ark as he can.  He and the robot, who he names Click, find themselves battling strange, dangerous evolved creatures and killer machines.  But Fisher is determined to find out if there is anyone else like him on Earth.  He and Click begin a treacherous journey where they meet an evolved mammoth who they call Protein, a strange prairie dog creature who speaks human, and deadly drones.  Will Fisher find another species like him or will he die trying?  Read The Boy at the End of the World!
